Things are starting to come together here in the Philippines with the action center. It has
been exactly one month since I first arrived. Yesterday I got the keys and began moving
things into the center. I am very excited to finally start working in Sampaguita. We have
already got many supplies and have one more day of shopping tomorrow and we will start
work.
Our first family we want to help is

These children live alone. Their mother ran off a couple months ago and the father works
as a security guard and is gone for weeks at a time. Last time he was home he had a
young girl with him, he seems more interested in partying and living it up than being a
father. There is no running water in the house and the electric recently got shut off.

The kids are left to fend for themselves. This evening I seen them cooking outside with a
fire. I wanted to invite them up tomorrow afternoon to learn more about their situation like
how they eat and where they get drinking water from. I have learned some tagalog since I
been here but don't speak it fluent yet so I had Mylene invite them up to the action
tomorrow. At first Rochelle thought it was somewhere far and would not be able to find it
and wondered why we were inviting her up? Mylene explained it was to eat some food
and talk with them. Rochelle at first thought it was just her and Greedy and then she
became happy when realized it was for all her brothers and sister.

While Mylene was visiting her mother I stood outside and talked with Rochelle and her
siblings and many other kids and they were teaching me new words in tagalog. The part
that touched me the most was how happy they all seemed. If you were transported to that
spot and seen how we were all laughing and talking you would never know what kind of
running water or electric I would not be so happy but they all seemed so happy and
cheerful.

I am afraid they might be drinking water from one of the wells and that water does not
appear safe to drink. There are several people in the area who don't have running water
and they will buy 5 gallons of water for 3 pesos (7.5 cents) but they might not have even
that little of money to spend on water. There are many other questions I want to ask and
tomorrow I will get the chance.
The next update will have pictures and an account of how things went on the first day the
action center is open
