The Homework program and the feeding program have both helped the children of Sampaguita in
a big way.
Allowing the children to use the computer and printer for homework assignments helps in two
ways. First it lets the children complete their homework. Most of what the students do is research
the current assignments for their subject and copy and paste what they need and find pictures to
go with it. Without a computer the students would have to find books and copy the information and
then they would have to draw the pictures for the assignment. That would be ok if the elementary
had a library but at this point there is no library, but they are building more rooms and will have a
library when completed. So at this point you almost need a computer to complete homework
because most classes don’t have textbooks.
Second the the homework program allows students to save their computer allowance for food.
Many children are faced with having to use their allowance (given by the parents who can afford
it) to complete school work and skip lunch. Sometime hunger might be too much and they eat
lunch and skip the assignment. Because of the homework program these children can eat and do
their homework

The children are thankful to have this resource and they always say thank you before they leave.
Recently we had new student come use the computer. Her name is Alexis ad she is quiet. Before
leaving the other night she printed out a message it read
THANK YOU
I am grateful that we can use here the computer for free and print for free. It is a big help for me.
Now my allowance is not sacrificed

The food program is going great. Some of the residents (not even the kids parents) of Sampaguita
pointed out to me that the children are looking better, they gained weight and have a glow about
them. I have seen it boost morale. We have 13 kids in the morning and 8 in the afternoon. The
morning group all wake up early and go to the well and take a bath before coming up they take
pride in being clean when they arrive for the feeding. According to their parents the kids did not
always take a bath that early they would often wait until closer to school time, but they feel the
need to be clean and presentable when coming to the Action Center.

We were two hot dogs short because I thought there were 18 hot dogs and it was only 16 so we
added some burgers to make up for it. Also we did not get all the kids in one picture which is
something we got better on in future feedings
